There is a brewing tension in Bayelsa state following the prolonged stay of Nancy Keme Dickson, the younger sister to Governor Seriake Dickson in the kidnapper’s den.
Nancy Keme Dickson was kidnapped was abducted on December 19, last year, by gunmen who seized at her shop on Okaka Road in Yenagoa, the state capital.
Today marks day 43 without any news of Nancy’s whereabout and this has triggered disbelieves amongst many Bayelsans who think Governor Dickson appears calm about his sister’s plight, The Nation reports.
It was gathered that many have criticised Dickson for his alleged indifference to his sister’s where about and expressed fears that her captors might subject her to various assaults.
Speaking on the condition of anonymity, a source close to the governor said Dickson was not disposed to paying any ransom to free his sister.
He recalled that the governor took a similar action when gunmen abducted the mother of a commissioner in his administration.
The source added: “The governor does not believe in paying ransom to kidnappers. When his mother was kidnapped, the abductors demanded ransom but the governor turned down their request. They kept the woman until they became tired and set her free.”
Nancy Keme Dickson, 26, who is said to be the last child of the Dicksons, was abducted on December 19, last year, by gunmen.
An eyewitness said Nancy Dicksons, was kidnapped at her shop located in Okaka Road, Yenagoa, the state capital, at about 2.50pm by the abductors who drove a Lexus SUV.
The kidnappers might have carried out surveillance on her movements before they struck.
Nancy was abducted after the December 5, 2015 governorship election and a few weeks to the January 9 supplementary poll, which Dickson won and became the re-elected governor.
The woman spent the Christmas and the New Year in her kidnappers’ den.
Nancy was missing when her family celebrated the governor’s victory at the poll, his 50th birthday and may likely miss Dickson’s inauguration on February 14.
